What is self-improvement? Some people look at it as a process, a path, and their needs on this path. During my 45 years of research and teaching experience, I've seen how making attempts to define self-improvement can interfere with one’s actual developmental process.

In the modern society, there’s no real criteria or means of evaluation, when it comes to developmental process. Development became more of a type of behavior that’s based on prenatal capabilities and postnatal reflections. Therefore, it’s very important to take a look at our understanding of the basics of development and to explore what it actually is.

From my experience, one of the fundamental aspects of development is the ability to learn, as well as the opportunity to learn. Being able to learn is its own kind of art. Without it, it might be difficult to remain in a developmental framework, to keep going, and to keep evolving. It’s important to understand that development is not about fulfillment of one’s mental or physiological concerns, but rather about consistent improvement. Development is not what people want or even what they desire. It has a lot to do with keeping the discipline, consistency and rhythm of everyday work they put in, even when the environment doesn’t support such a routine. It takes a certain level of mental toughness to keep the rhythm of self-improvement on a day-to-day basis.

Can we realize and answer the question about what development is? It might be difficult to find out what it is, but it’s very important to answer this question, because, depending on the answer, we can either make it an important part of our lives, or, just entertain ourselves with certain activities out of curiosity for a short period of time, and then loose motivation.

While we’re in the process of self-improvement, a lot of questions might come up and, when trying to answer them, we should be careful with limiting ourselves by looking for answers within our existing belief system and life experience. It’s important to be open minded and to be able to understand the next steps we need to take in order to grow, and not be limited by our old conditioning and reactions.

A lot of women are having troubles with remaining on the path of self-improvement due to many challenges of today’s society. The key is to be able to step outside of what we think we already know, based on our life experience and external conditions, especially when it comes to physiological aspects. The goal is to remain in the process of self-improvement, instead of waiting for results.

Development is a process, that allows us to look at awareness, body and energy at a different angle.
